WB Picks Up Prison Riot Thriller for Francis Lawrence

The Hollywood Reporter has a story about Warner Bros. picking up the project written by Ari Rubin with Francis Lawrence attached to direct.

The story is based on actual events, following the events surrounding the riots and siege of Atlanta Federal Penitentiary in 1987. After Cuban and American inmates took control of the prison, along with over 100 prison staff hostages, the under-equipped FBI hostage rescue team was forced to call in Delta Force to resolve the situation.

It is unclear when the film will go into production, as I Am Legend and Constantine director Lawrence is currently developing the circus-themed Water for Elephants, based on the novel by Sara Gruen, for Fox 2000. He also has the untitled I Am Legend prequel, animated film Eddie Dickens and the Awful End, and the Snow White retelling Snow and the Seven on his slate, among others.
